Dostoyevsky’s last novel was “The Brothers Karamazov”, it was written over a period of a year and was released/published in sequels in “The Russian Messenger”. This philosophical novel was considered to be the greatest piece of literature of the 19th and 20th century. In The Brothers Karamazov, Ivan Fyodorovich writes an article on ecclesiastical courts, which was popular in Russia in the s. The responsibility of the courts, which held jurisdiction among “fallen Christians” in both the clergy and among the laity, was to identify a person’s sins, admonish the sinner, return them to a righteous path.

The Brothers Karamazov is a film made by MGM, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel The Brothers was directed by Richard Brooks and produced by Pandro S. screenplay was by Julius J. Epstein, Philip G. Epstein and Richard Brooks. It was entered into the Cannes Film Festival. The brothers are played by Yul Brynner, Richard Basehart and Music by: Bronislau Kaper.
